The Embassy of Suriname in India concluded celebrations of Suriname’s 50th Independence (“Srefidensi”) with a symbolic green initiative—planting 50 trees in New Delhi’s Central Ridge Area.

Led by Ambassador Arunkoemar Hardien, the event drew inspiration from India’s national campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, underscoring the shared dedication of Suriname and India to environmental conservation and reverence for Mother Earth.

The initiative was carried out with support from India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and the National Afforestation & Eco-Development Board.

The tree planting also echoed Suriname’s message ahead of COP30, reaffirming the nation’s pledge to remain carbon-negative and safeguard its rich natural heritage.
