On December 8, the Embassy of Iceland marked Fullveldisdagurinn means “Sovereignty Day.” Iceland’s Sovereignty Day — with its annual reception. The evening brought together partners and friends whose continued engagement strengthens the growing cooperation between Iceland and India.

In his remarks, Ambassador Benedikt Höskuldsson reflected on the significance of 2025 for the Embassy, highlighted by the entry into force of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) earlier this year. He also announced the Embassy’s upcoming intentional travel outreach programme, Shaping Discovery, set to launch in 2026.

“As we gather here in New Delhi, more than 7,000 kilometres from Reykjavík, this celebration takes on special meaning. In addition to honouring Iceland’s historic sovereignty, we celebrate the remarkable growth and deepening partnership between Iceland and India—two independent nations committed to democracy, innovation, and sustainable progress,” he noted.

With ingredients sourced directly from Iceland, Chef Friðrik Sigurðsson curated a remarkable feast featuring signature Icelandic staples such as salmon, cod, and lamb — much to the delight of the guests. The success of the reception was made possible by the tireless efforts and dedication of the Embassy staff and diplomats.
