Jamia Hamdard Hosts International Expert Dr. Rogan Slavko for Insightful Lecture on Maintaining Intrinsic Capacity in the Elderly

The Department of Physiotherapy, Jamia Hamdard organized a guest lecture on “How to Maintain Intrinsic Capacity in the Elderly Population” by Dr. Rogan Slavko, Head of the Department of Qualification and Examination, Bern University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland on 16th December 2025. Upon his arrival, Dr. Rogan Slavko was taken on a guided university visit by Prof. Sohrab A. Khan, Dr. Kalpana Zutshi and Dr Hammad A. Siddiqui. Dr. Slavko elaborated on the WHO framework of intrinsic capacity, emphasizing its five core domains—locomotion, cognition, vitality, sensory functions, and psychological well-being. The lecture highlighted the role of multidisciplinary rehabilitation, early identification of functional decline, and the importance of lifestyle interventions such as physical activity, cognitive stimulation, nutrition, and psychosocial engagement.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, enabling participants to gain clarity on assessment approaches and global best practices in geriatric care. Following the guest lecture, Dr. Slavko also interacted with Ph.D. scholars of the Department of Physiotherapy, engaging in academic discussions. Prof. Sohrab A. Khan along with other Physiotherapy faculties accompanied him to various advanced laboratories of the university, including facilities utilized for molecular research, providing an overview of the institution’s research infrastructure and ongoing academic activities.
