Amitav Ghosh Joins Norway’s Future Library Project at Ambassador’s Residence Event

New Delhi: Celebrated author Amitav Ghosh was hosted in conversation with Anne Beate Hovind, Director of Norway’s Future Library, at the Ambassador’s Residence on Wednesday evening. The event brought together diplomats, writers and cultural leaders to mark Ghosh’s contribution to the unique literary initiative.

Organised in collaboration with HarperCollins India, the evening highlighted Amitav Ghosh’s selection as one of the writers invited to contribute a manuscript to the Future Library in Norway. His work will remain unread until 2114, when it will be published alongside manuscripts from other participating authors.

Launched in 2014, the Future Library project invites one writer each year to submit an original manuscript that will be sealed for 100 years. In the meantime, a forest planted outside Oslo is being nurtured to provide the paper on which the collected works will eventually be printed in 2114.

Speakers at the event emphasised the project’s powerful symbolism, bringing together literature, environmental stewardship and long-term thinking. Norway reaffirmed its pride in supporting the initiative, which celebrates creativity, sustainability and trust in the future.

The evening concluded with thanks to all participants for joining a special celebration of writing, nature and intergenerational responsibility.
