AMU Celebrates 77th Republic Day with Patriotic Fervour across Colleges, Schools and Units

Aligarh, January 27: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated across various colleges, schools, halls and units of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with fervour and great enthusiasm.

At the Women’s College, Principal Prof. Masood Anwar Alvi unfurled the Tricolour and addressed students and faculty members. He highlighted the importance of constitutional values and paid tribute to freedom fighters. He said that citizens must respect constitutional values and follow the principles of the Constitution that empower society. In the contemporary era, the Constitution of India guides public policy and governance. He urged students to become responsible citizens and contribute positively to society, emphasizing that education is the best means to achieve progress and national development. Students presented patriotic songs and cultural performances.

Aligarh Muslim University, Kishanganj Centre, marked Republic Day with enthusiasm, pride and active involvement of faculty members, students, staff and the local community. The event highlighted the spirit of unity and patriotism while celebrating the nation’s journey of democracy and development. Dr. Faiz Mohammad, Coordinator, Department of Business Administration, unfurled the National Flag. Shadab Haider, MBA final-year student, delivered a speech highlighting the key role of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and other eminent personalities in drafting and shaping the Constitution.

Republic Day celebrations commenced at Abdullah Hall with a vibrant Prabhat Pheri. Provost Dr. Sheeba Jilani unfurled the National Flag and, in her address, underscored the significance of the day and the enduring values enshrined in the Constitution. Dignitaries including Mrs. Naghma Irfan (Principal, Senior Secondary School Girls) and Mrs. Amna Malik (Principal, Girls School), along with wardens, staff and resident students, attended the event. Certificates were distributed to winners of the two-kilometre Run for Swadeshi Marathon. The cultural programme featured an English speech by Zoya.

The AMU Nurses Association organised a grand Republic Day event attended by Nursing Officers, Senior Nursing Officers and office-bearers of the Association. Union Patron Mr. Ashiq Ali inaugurated the programme and emphasised that while the Constitution grants fundamental rights, it is equally important to sincerely discharge fundamental duties. He also expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for taking a historic decision in favour of the nursing cadre by allotting an office to the Association. Association President Mr. Sijauddin highlighted issues related to the nursing cadre, while General Secretary Rinku Chaudhary, Vice-President Nisar Jahan and Joint Secretary Kamil Quraishi also shared their views.

At Abdullah School, the celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag followed by a march past. Students presented inspiring speeches, group dances and songs. Superintendent Ms. Umra Zaheer spoke on brotherhood, India’s diversity and the nation’s dream of a stronger future.

At the Senior Secondary School (Girls), the programme commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by Principal Mrs. Nagma Irfan. She highlighted the historical and constitutional significance of Republic Day and exhorted students to uphold unity, equality and national integrity. Patriotic speeches, solo songs and group songs were presented. Prizes were awarded to outstanding performers. Vice-Principal Ms. Rukhsana Nisar was also present.

AMU ABK High School Girls (Primary Section) campus was decorated with colourful props, Tricolour ribbons, flags and creative displays. Chief Guest Prof. Ayesha Farooq, Department of Business Administration, unfurled the National Flag at 8:45 a.m. Principal Dr. Samina, Vice-Principal Dr. Saba Hasan and staff were present. Students presented speeches, poems, patriotic songs and dances.

Prof. Ayesha Farooq highlighted the significance of the Constitution and the values of equality, justice and democracy, and underlined the importance of women empowerment. Dr. Saba Hasan explained the relevance of Republic Day in present times, while Dr. Samina encouraged students and appreciated their discipline. Dr. Farhat Parveen, Coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.

At S.T.S. Minto Circle campus, the programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag followed by an impressive march past by NCC students. Principal Mr. Faisal Nafees highlighted constitutional values, national unity and the role of students in nation-building. Primary Section students presented “Story of Freedom”. Faizan Ayyub (Class XII Arts) delivered an Urdu speech, Mohammad Abuzar (Class X) spoke in English, and Ruby House, Sapphire House and Emerald House presented thematic skits. Chief Guest Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, Dean, Faculty of Science, inspired students with his address. Vice-Principal Dr. Mohammad Alamgir proposed a vote of thanks.

Saiyid Hamid Senior Secondary School (Boys) celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic zeal. Officiating Principal Mr. Sabahuddin unfurled the National Flag in the presence of Vice-Principal Mr. Mohd Javed Khan. Mr. Sabahuddin highlighted the historic importance of Republic Day and constitutional values. Mr. Sarim delivered an English speech, Yanis Rizvi a Hindi speech, and Mohd Wali an Urdu speech. The programme was conducted by Ms. Ayesha Imran.

Sarojini Naidu Hall organised its celebration under the guidance of Provost Prof. Orus Ilyas. The National Flag was unfurled followed by the National Anthem. Prof. Orus Ilyas spoke on justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. Dr. Mohd Aslam recited couplets reflecting the spirit of Republic Day. The gathering also remembered the tragic demise of Ms. Inshah Fatima, a resident of the Hall.

AMU Girls’ School celebrated Republic Day with great enthusiasm. Principal Mrs. Amna Malik and Vice-Principal Ms. Alka Agarwal welcomed Chief Guest Dr. Saleha Jamal, Assistant Director, School Education, AMU. A painting by Rizwa Rabbi (Class X) was presented to the Chief Guest. An impressive march past was followed by cultural programmes. Mrs. Amna Malik emphasised constitutional values and the vision of Viksit Bharat. Raima Qasim (Class XII Science) was declared Head Girl. Fatima Wahid Award for Best Player was announced by Ms. Afshan W. Khan and awarded to Zainab Tabassum (Class XII Humanities). Creative performances, Taekwondo demonstration and Mass P.T. earned appreciation. Manpreet Vaid, President, Social Science Society, proposed a vote of thanks.

AMU City Girls’ High School celebrated Republic Day with grandeur. Chief Guest Mr. Abdul Qadeer, Assistant Director, School Education, AMU, unfurled the flag. Students delivered speeches in English, Hindi and Urdu and presented a skit on the Constitution. Principal Mr. M. Javed Akhter said the Constitution is the foundation of India’s unity and integrity. The Chief Guest urged students to uphold moral values and serve the nation. Fouzia Shakeel (IX-A) and Sadia Tahir (IX-B) conducted the programme. Ms. Farzana Nazeer, Vice-Principal and Cultural Coordinator, was the Convener and Coordinator.

Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged celebrated Republic Day with the unfurling of the National Flag by Principal Dr. Nayla Rashid. A march past, patriotic song by the choir and a melodious performance by music teacher Mr. Sirajuddin Sheikh were highlights. Winners of competitions were honoured. The programme was conducted by Mrs. Nudrat Jahan.

AMU ABK High School celebrated the 77th Republic Day with a Prabhat Pheri from STS School to Staff Club and back. Chief Guest Prof. Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Former Principal, JNMC, and Principal Dr. Samina unfurled the National Flag. Cultural programmes were presented. The programme was conducted by Arish Khan. Ms. Ghausia Iqbal coordinated the event, while Ms. Farah Najm proposed a vote of thanks.

At Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, Provost Prof. Fatima Khan unfurled the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and University Tarana, in the presence of wardens, students and employees. Ms. Iqra Nazneen (Office Staff) and Kashish Fatima (Senior Hall) highlighted the importance of the Constitution.

At Allama Iqbal Boarding House, Warden-in-Charge Mr. Mohammad Mustapha unfurled the National Flag. He recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and urged everyone to work for unity, integrity and prosperity. Mr. Abu Hamza presented a patriotic poem and also conducted the programme.

At Paramedical College principal Prof. Qazi Ehsan Ali unfurled the National Flag and address the faculty members and staff.
