A Voice of Unity Rising from Haldwani: Rohit Prakash’s Initiative in Support of Muslim Shopkeepers During Ramadan

An inspiring initiative strengthening India’s Ganga-Jamuni culture has emerged from Uttarakhand. According to a report published in Awaz The Voice, in the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani, a Hindu youth, Rohit Prakash, submitted a memorandum to the administration demanding that Muslim shopkeepers be allowed to keep their shops open until late at night during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is a month of worship, self-restraint, and spiritual devotion. During this time, members of the Muslim community offer prayers in mosques late into the night, perform Taraweeh, and prepare for Sehri (the pre-dawn meal). In such circumstances, the nighttime restrictions imposed in the area are creating practical difficulties for them. Understanding this sensitive issue, Rohit Prakash stepped forward and requested the administration to grant special relief.

According to the report, a delegation of public representatives and councillors from the Banbhoolpura area also requested the administration to lift the nighttime restrictions. The memorandum clearly stated that during Ramadan, only limited activities take place in markets and shops at night, and this does not create any law-and-order problems. The delegation assured the administration that the people of the area always celebrate festivals in peace and brotherhood and abide by the law.

The memorandum also stated that due to the nighttime restrictions, unnecessary obstacles arise in Sehri and other religious activities, which are not in accordance with people’s religious rights. Therefore, the administration was requested to grant special relaxation during the holy month of Ramadan so that the community can observe its religious traditions without any hindrance.

Rohit Prakash’s initiative is not merely an administrative demand, but also a powerful message of social harmony and mutual respect. This incident demonstrates that India’s true strength lies in its unity in diversity and in mutual trust. Now, all eyes are on the administration’s decision to ensure that the religious sentiments of the residents of Banbhoolpura are respected.
