ALIGARH, The Dental College Society of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College and Hospital, AMU organized a lecture on “Pathways to Study Abroad” to guide undergraduate and postgraduate students on international academic opportunities, scholarships, research pathways, and career development abroad. The session drew participation from students and faculty members to gain insights into higher education and global academic exposure.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Ahmad Shoeb Hashmi, who recently secured the prestigious Sommer Scholarship at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He elaborated on the essential aspects of preparing for international academic programmes, including building a strong research profile, publication strategies, networking, scholarship applications, and interview preparation. He also shared his personal academic journey and experiences that contributed to his selection for the highly competitive programme.
Dr. Hashmi’s achievement is notable as the Sommer Scholarship is awarded annually to only 14 scholars worldwide. During an interaction session, Dr. Marie West appreciated Dr. Hashmi’s research publications and public health initiatives, remarking that he is the first-ever dentist to secure this award across all previous 20 cohorts of the Sommer Scholars Program.
Prof. N D Gupta (Officiating Principal of the Dental College) and Chairperson, Department of Periodontology, congratulated Dr. Hashmi and lauded the Dental College Society for organizing an informative academic session. He emphasized the growing importance of global collaboration and interdisciplinary research in modern healthcare education.
Dr. Hashmi acknowledged the encouragement and academic guidance provided by his mentors, including Prof. ND Gupta, Dr. Saif Khan and Prof. Asad U. Khan. Faculty members and students described the session as highly motivating for aspiring researchers and future international scholars.
