Aligarh, Demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological consciousness, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized plantation drives at different locations on the eve of World Environment Day 2026 under the banner of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment). Conducted in collaboration with the Departments of Chemistry and Sanskrit, the initiatives aimed to sensitise the university community towards environmental stewardship and sustainable living.
At the Department of Chemistry Lawn, a plantation drive was organized under the leadership of Prof. Zeba N. Siddiqui, Chairperson, Department of Chemistry. Faculty members, research scholars, students, and NSS volunteers participated enthusiastically in planting saplings and spreading awareness about environmental conservation. Among those present were faculty members of the department, research scholars, students, and NSS volunteer Muhammad Kaif Siddiqui.

A separate plantation drive was held at the Department of Sanskrit Lawn in collaboration with the Department of Sanskrit. The programme was attended by Prof. Sarika Varshney, Chairperson, Department of Sanskrit; Dr. Anwar Shahzad, Member In-Charge, Land and Building; Prof. Himanshu Shekhar Acharya; Dr. Hemlata; Dr. Krishna Gopal; and Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa, besides students and NSS volunteers.
The programmes were organized under the guidance of Dr. Abdul Jabbar, Officiating Coordinator, NSS AMU Unit, with active participation from NSS Programme Officers Dr. Mohd. Hanif Ahmad, Dr. Fauzia Faridi, Dr. Zafar Iftikhar, Mr. Naeem Ahmad, and Mr. Mohd. Imran, along with NSS volunteers and students.
Speaking on the occasion, participants highlighted the importance of tree plantation in promoting ecological balance and environmental sustainability. They also underscored the objectives of Mission LiFE in encouraging environmentally responsible behaviour and collective action for a greener future.
The plantation drives concluded with a pledge to protect nature and strengthen environmental awareness across the university community.
