Moscow: Dr Lyudmila Khokhlova, Associate Professor in the Department of Indian Philology at the Institute of Asian and African Countries, Lomonosov Moscow State University, has been conferred the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to education and literature.
The prestigious award acknowledges Dr Khokhlova’s decades-long academic career and her significant achievements in historical linguistics. Her pioneering research on the origins and evolution of Sikhism has earned widespread recognition in academic circles.

A distinguished scholar, Dr Khokhlova has authored six books and 92 academic publications. She has made substantial contributions to the study and promotion of Indian languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, and Marwari.
Over the years, she has also played a pivotal role in nurturing a new generation of specialists in Indian studies, leaving a lasting impact on the field through both her research and teaching.
The Padma Shri honour underscores her enduring contribution to strengthening academic and cultural ties between India and Russia.
