New Delhi: The School of Law at HILSR successfully hosted an insightful session on “AI and Autonomous Weapon Systems” as part of its Law in Action Series, bringing together discussions on the rapidly evolving relationship between artificial intelligence, international law, human rights and modern warfare.
The session featured Prof. Sanoj Rajan of Zhejiang Gongshang University, China, who explored the emerging legal and ethical challenges posed by the increasing use of artificial intelligence in military and autonomous weapon systems.
The discussion examined how technological advancements in AI are creating new questions for international humanitarian law, human rights frameworks and the regulation of warfare. The session also highlighted the need for legal institutions and policymakers to keep pace with technological developments that could significantly transform the nature of armed conflict.
The programme was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Saleena K. Basheer, Dean, HILSR, while Dr. Amrutha Satheesan, Assistant Professor, HILSR, coordinated the session.
The interaction provided students and participants with an opportunity to engage with contemporary questions surrounding accountability, human control, emerging military technologies and the application of international legal principles in an increasingly AI-driven world.
