Lithuania Showcases Innovation, Technology Potential to Indian Journalists During Special Visit

The Embassy of Lithuania in India has continued its successful outreach initiative launched in 2025 by hosting two prominent Indian journalists — Huma Siddiqui and Sumit Pande — on an extensive visit to Lithuania aimed at highlighting the country’s economic, technological and innovation capabilities, while deepening prospects for Lithuania–India cooperation.

During the visit, the journalists engaged with representatives from Lithuania’s government, innovation ecosystem, universities and globally competitive industries spanning lasers, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, life sciences, maritime engineering and advanced manufacturing.

Key discussions with Lithuania’s Minister of the Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas and Vice-Minister of National Defence Dr. Karolis Aleksa focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in ICT, cybersecurity, defence technologies and resilient supply chains.

At Lithuanian Innovation Agency, Unicorns Lithuania, INFOBALT and Hostinger, discussions underscored Lithuania’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem, strong digital economy and ambitions to emerge as a regional hub for AI and advanced technologies. Meetings with Ecogrant also explored opportunities in plastics recycling and circular economy cooperation.

The delegation was introduced to Lithuania’s globally recognised laser industry through visits to Ekspla and Light Conversion, where they learned about the country’s leadership in ultrafast laser technologies used in semiconductor manufacturing, life sciences, precision medicine and advanced industrial applications.

In the port city of Klaipėda, the journalists visited Port of Klaipėda — a fully digitalised and congestion-free logistics hub connecting the Baltic region with wider European and Indo-Pacific supply chains. Discussions also touched upon the strategic importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). At Garant Group, the delegation explored Lithuania’s maritime engineering expertise and globally deployed marine solutions.

The visit further included interactions with Research Council of Lithuania, Kaunas University of Technology and Vilnius University Life Sciences Center, where the journalists witnessed Lithuania’s growing strengths in biotechnology and health technologies. Researchers demonstrated pioneering studies using zebrafish originating from India to examine heart regeneration after cardiac arrest.

As part of the cultural and diplomatic program, the delegation also visited the Embassy of India in Lithuania and attended Lithuanian artist Eglė Lipeikaitė’s exhibition, “India through Lithuanian Eyes.”

The visit concluded with a meeting with Dr. Surya Revanth Ayyagari, an Indian researcher who completed his PhD in optics in Lithuania, symbolising the growing academic and scientific partnership between Lithuania and India.
