ALIGARH, Chairpersons and Directors of various departments under the Faculty of Arts, Aligarh Muslim University, organised a farewell and felicitation ceremony in honour of former Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. T. N. Satheesan, while also welcoming the newly appointed Dean, Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan. The programme, held at the Faculty of Arts Lounge, marked the first collective farewell organised by all departments of the Faculty.

Welcoming the gathering, Prof. Mohammad Jahangeer Warsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics, paid tribute to Prof. Satheesan’s distinguished contributions as a teacher, administrator and academic leader. He described him as a scholar whose dedication and leadership significantly contributed to the growth and development of the Faculty of Arts. Prof. Warsi also welcomed Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan and highlighted his contributions as a teacher, researcher, translator and academic administrator, noting his extensive scholarly publications and leadership roles in the University.
Several chairpersons and senior faculty members, including Dr. Abdul Hadi, Prof. Meraj Ahmad, Prof. Faizan Beg, Prof. Mohammad Quamrul Hooda Faridi, Prof. Zubair Shadab, Prof. A. Nujum, Dr. Aamir Riyaz, Prof. Mohammad Usman Ghani and Prof. ShaheenaTarannum, spoke on the occasion and appreciated Prof. Satheesan’s academic achievements, administrative acumen, humility and commitment to institutional development. They also expressed confidence in the leadership of Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan and his vision for strengthening the Faculty.
A message from Prof. AzarmiDukhtSafavi was read out by Dr. Md. Ehteshamuddin, highlighting Prof. Satheesan’s kindness, fairness and scholarly excellence. Senior faculty members, including Prof. Latif Hussain Shah Kazmi, Prof. Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Prof. Mohd Sami Akhtar and Dr. Arshad Iqbal, also shared their reflections on his long and distinguished service to the University.

In his farewell address, Prof. Satheesan expressed gratitude for the affection and support he received during his nearly 38-year association with AMU and remarked that Aligarh had become his first home. Presiding over the function, Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan described Prof. Satheesan as a scholar of rare distinction and urged all departments to work collectively towards enhancing the academic stature of the Faculty of Arts.
As a mark of appreciation, Prof. Satheesan was presented with a memento, while Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan was felicitated by the chairpersons of the departments. Prof. Sarika Varshney, Chairperson, Department of Sanskrit, proposed the vote of thanks.
