The Gaza Health Ministry warned on Friday that malnutrition and hunger in the Gaza Strip have reached catastrophic levels, threatening children, older people and other vulnerable groups.

In a statement marking World Food Day, the ministry said more than 1.4 million Palestinians, representing 67% of the population, are at risk of malnutrition and hunger this year amid the ongoing war and worsening humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

The ministry reported that 158,000 cases of acute malnutrition had been recorded among children under the age of five between 2024 and August 2026.

It also reported that 466 Palestinians, including 157 children, had died from malnutrition and starvation since the beginning of 2024, attributing the deaths to what it described as Israeli-imposed starvation.
