AMU Gears Up for Grand Independence Day Celebrations

Aligarh, July 23: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is set to celebrate Independence Day with patriotic fervour and ceremonial splendor. A consultative meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naima Khatoon, was convened today at the Administrative Block’s Conference Hall to finalise the preparations for the August 15 celebrations.

During the meeting, Prof. Khatoon highlighted the historic importance of Independence Day, calling it “a momentous occasion that symbolises the resurgence and resilience of our Nation.” She urged all university community to contribute meaningfully to ensure the day is commemorated with dignity and pride.

The main event will take place at Strachey Hall, beginning with the hoisting of the National Flag at 9:11 am, followed by the National Anthem and a ceremonial Guard of Honour by NCC cadets. The Vice-Chancellor will deliver an address on the occasion and will also plant saplings at Sir Syed Hall (North and South) as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. She will also visit the Patients at the University Health Centre.

As part of the traditional celebrations, a special mushaira will be held on the eve of Independence Day at the Polytechnic Auditorium, showcasing the spirit of freedom through poetry. To mark the occasion, university buildings will be illuminated.

The meeting was also addressed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohd Mohsin Khan and Registrar Mohammad Imran (IPS). A full-dress rehearsal is scheduled for August 13 to ensure seamless execution of the event.

All senior officials and key functionaries of the university were present, reaffirming AMU’s resolve to honour India’s independence with reverence, unity, and national pride.
