Indian Investment in Ethiopia Crosses $6.5B, Creates Over 17,000 Jobs

According to Anil Kumar Rai, India’s ambassador to Ethiopia, more than 17,000 jobs have been created by the more than USD 6.5 billion that Indian investors have invested in Ethiopia.

Ambassador Rai cited recent economic reforms, such as currency floatation and sector liberalization, as key elements boosting Ethiopia’s attractiveness to investors in an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald.

Ethiopia is becoming a more powerful economic force in the Horn of Africa and beyond thanks to these reforms. Ambassador Rai noted new prospects for Indian companies in manufacturing, ICT, SMEs, and agriculture, adding that India is currently Ethiopia’s second-largest trading partner and investor.
