J.N. Medical College Observes World Hepatitis Day with Seminar and Health Camp

Aligarh, July 30: The Department of Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), along with the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP), held an awareness seminar and a health camp to celebrate World Hepatitis Day on July 28.

Conducted under the theme “Let’s break it down,” and led by Prof. Mohd. Aslam, Chairman, Department of Medicine, the event was organized to inform healthcare professionals and the public about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hepatitis.

An informative lecture by Dr. Devada Ambalal of the Department of Medicine was followed by a screening and consultation camp at the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) Centre.

The senior teaching staff including Prof. Mohd. Habib Raza (Dean and Principal, JNMC), Prof. Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi (Medical Superintendent), and Prof. Wasif M. Khan (Assistant Medical Superintendent) highlighted the imperative for hepatitis awareness and greater involvement of the community in addressing public health problems.

Dr. Husaini S. Haider Mehdi, Nodal Officer, ART Centre, welcomed the event theme and emphasized the services of hepatitis available at OPD 23, including viral load testing and medication access.

Prof. Anjum Parvez, who was in charge of the Gastroenterology Unit, was a participant throughout. Knowledgeable lectures were also given by Dr. Mohd. Saquib Alam on awareness and Dr. Mohd. Salman on treatment of viral hepatitis.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shafquat Tasneem. The programme further strengthened JNMC’s commitment towards public health promotion through awareness and affordable medical services.
