On Navy Day, 27th July 2025, President Vladimir Putin delivered a heart-felt address to honor generations of Russian sailors for their service, sacrifice, and contribution to the development of the Russian Navy’s strength and glory.
He expressed his wishes to all sailors and officers who are serving now, appreciating their dedication to the Motherland and honoring the historical and contemporary significance of Russia’s naval power.
President Putin acknowledged the Navy tradition, going back to Peter the Great, and spoke of the respect and admiration with which the Russian people hold naval personnel.
He spoke of the virtues of courage, integrity, and patriotism which endure through generations of servicemen and define naval life, and which are transmitted from generation to generation across servicemen.
Stressing the strategic mission of the Navy to defend Russia’s interests in the oceanic space of the world, he confirmed the Navy’s preparedness and technological superiority. He spoke of Russia’s cutting-edge command and communications system and nuclear fleet, particularly an increasing number of nuclear submarines.
These include the recently commissioned Knyaz Pozharsky cruiser, two Borey-A class submarines, and six Yasen-M class multipurpose nuclear submarines under construction.
President Putin also signed off on the approval of the first ever long-term Navy Development Strategy to 2050. This vision, as he declared, is based on faith in Russia’s potential and is intended to make the Navy able to respond to changing trends in the world while promoting international cooperation on the principles of parity and respect.
He rewarded Russian naval personnel who took part in the special military operation for courage and devotion to justice and national sovereignty. Naval officers and sailors in excess of 50,000 were rewarded with medals and state awards, and 35 of them were declared Heroes of Russia.
Finally, President Putin expressed gratitude to the Navy for its achievements and service. He wished all the Navy’s families good health and further success, whose support he characterized as unbreakable and essential.
