Aligarh, August 19: In an effort to address the student protest, the administration of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon, held a meeting with the representatives of the protesting students in early hours today. The discussions were conducted in a cordial and constructive environment, aimed at resolving the concerns of the students.

During the meeting, all issues raised by the students were attentively heard by the Vice-Chancellor. Doubts and queries were addressed, and the demands of the students were discussed in detail.

According to the Minutes of the meeting, it was decided that the AMU Students’ Union elections will be held after the completion of odd semester examinations and before the commencement of the winter vacation in December 2025.

On the matter of fee hike, the administration reiterated that the Academic Council had already capped the increase at 20 percent for continuing students. The Vice-Chancellor assured that no student would be deprived of education due to financial hardship and that financial support will be extended to needy students, particularly those from economically weaker sections. A committee will be formed to suggest modalities of assistance, and the University will share a detailed fee breakup while extending payment deadlines wherever required.

Cases of students detained due to attendance or related issues will be examined individually and resolved at the earliest where required. Regarding students suspended during the recent protest, the Vice-Chancellor assured that the Disciplinary Committee would meet within a week to consider their cases on priority.

At the conclusion of the meeting, student representatives expressed their satisfaction and announced at Bab-e-Syed that they were satisfied with the discussion. Following this, the administrative team, led by the Vice-Chancellor, visited the dharna site. Prof. Naima Khatoon personally offered juice to the students on hunger strike as a gesture of care and goodwill. Subsequently, the students called off their protest.

This dialogue underscores the University’s commitment to maintaining open communication with students, addressing their concerns promptly, and nurturing a peaceful and cooperative campus environment.
