On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, Jamia Middle School, Jamia Millia Islamia, celebrated the historic tradition of One Day School (Ek Din ka Madrasa) on 4th September, 2025, with great zeal and enthusiasm. This unique event, which has been observed in Jamia Middle School, was earlier known as Madrasa e Ibtedai since 1946. This event symbolizes respect for teachers and responsibility among students. Initially started for just an hour, it has now grown into a full-day event.
On this day, students stepped into the role of teachers and shouldered all responsibilities of the school—from ringing the bell for each period to ensuring smooth dispersal. A Class 8th student was appointed as the Headmistress, another as Vice Head, along with two in-charges and a dedicated proctorial team to manage the day’s proceedings.
The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by its translation and setting a spiritual and thoughtful tone for the day, following the Hadees and thought of the day. The special assembly also included inspiring speeches, melodious group songs, and cultural presentations by students. Sweets were distributed to every student, and a memento was presented to Class 8th students in recognition of their special role in this Historic event. In her speech, Headmistress Ms Nusrat Jahan emphasized the role of teachers in the life of an individual and in nation-building. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem, which was beautifully rendered in sign language by B.Ed. Special Students, adding a moving and inclusive touch to the celebration.
The entire program was carefully designed and organized by the Cultural Coordinator of the school and teachers under the guidance of the Headmistress, with the support and blessings of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi. The occasion was further graced by the presence of the OSD to the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Dr Satya Prakash Prasad, who expressed delight at the unique tradition, appreciated the efforts, and warmly congratulated the teachers and Headmistress. All the teachers and students were present in this event. Dr Satya Prakash met the students and inspired them to participate in such activities for holistic growth.
Overall, Ek Din ka Madrasa-2025 was a memorable and inspiring celebration, reinforcing the values of responsibility, leadership, inclusiveness, and gratitude towards teachers.
