Aligarh, September 16, 2025 – Aligarh Muslim University observed Swachhta Pakhwada 2025 across its departments, schools, and halls of residence with a series of activities aimed at promoting cleanliness, hygiene, environmental awareness, and civic responsibility. The events sought to instil a sense of collective responsibility among students, staff, and residents for maintaining a clean and green campus.
The Department of Commerce organized a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cleanliness drive under the guidance of Dean Prof. Mohammad Asif Khan in coordination with Prof. Nagma Azhar. Staff and students actively participated in maintaining hygiene and promoting awareness of cleanliness practices.
Final year MBA students of Strategic Human Resource Management conducted a creative class activity titled “From Trash to Treasure” as part of the Green Workplace Initiative, transforming discarded office materials into usable items. Under the guidance of Prof. Feza Tabassum Azmi, the students demonstrated innovation and sustainability, an initiative appreciated by Prof. Salma Ahmed, Chairperson, Department of Business Administration, and Dr. Asif Ali Syed.

The Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, observed Swachhta Pakhwada with great enthusiasm and commitment. The programme commenced with a Swachhta pledge led by Professor Hassan Imam, Chairperson and Coordinator of the CAS, Department of History, who emphasized that Swachhta is not only about maintaining external cleanliness but also about fostering discipline, responsibility, and respect for the environment. Faculty members and staff participated in affirming their responsibility to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and inspire others to do the same. A plantation drive was organized in the outer lawn of the Department to symbolize the integration of cleanliness with greenery, sustainability, and a healthier future.
AMU Girls’ School observed Swachhta Pakhwada from September 1 to 15 under the guidance of Principal Mrs. Amna Malik, Vice Principal Ms. Alka Agarwal, and Coordinator Ms. Zeba Nawaz. Activities included a Mass Swachhta Pledge, Shramdaan and plogging, a plantation drive, and creation of thematic posters and slogans. Social media campaigns and promotion of the Swachh Bharat Anthem were carried out among school students and staff, while a campaign to discourage single-use plastics was also conducted. A signature campaign, a Swachhta Rally, a Nukkad Natak on cleanliness, an exhibition on waste-to-wealth, cleaning of rooftops, and installation of a selfie booth also featured under the Swachhta programme. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to continue efforts for a clean and healthy environment.
AMU ABK High School Girls observed Swachhta Pakhwada from September 1 to 15 with activities including a cleanliness drive, deep cleaning of toilets, reorganization of classrooms and labs, and a plantation drive under the theme “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam.” Vice Principal Dr. Saba Hasan appreciated the students’ enthusiastic participation and acknowledged the efforts of Coordinator Dr. Farhat Parveen and Event Incharges Ms. Fakhra Yaseen and Mr. Zeeshan Nawab.
AMU City Girls’ High School participated in Swachhta Pakhwada under Principal Mr. Javed Akhtar’s leadership. The students, along with staff, took the Swachhta pledge. A plantation drive was organized in which Kaner, Tulsi, and Aloe Vera plants were planted across the campus, and students of Classes IA and IB brought saplings from their homes to emphasize the importance of plants. A selfie booth designed by Ms. Areeba and Ms. Tuba Kamal promoted the message of Clean India, Green India. A special assembly by Class VI-C educated students about Swachhta and how to maintain cleanliness in all areas of life, and the Swachhta Anthem was performed to reinforce the message. A slogan and poster competition showcased students’ creativity, and a lively seminar addressed issues such as e-waste management, cleaning surroundings, and the importance of personal hygiene, with speakers Mrs. Pakeeza Khan, Ms. Urooja Khan, and Mrs. Tehmina Ashraf discussing the impact of hygiene, management of electronic waste, and measures to maintain a clean environment. Principal Mr. Javed Akhtar highlighted the importance of cleanliness not only as an individual duty but also as a habit. Earlier, a Shramdaan activity engaged students from Classes II to X in cleaning their classrooms.

AMU ABK High School Boys observed Swachhta Pakhwada from September 1 to 15 with enthusiasm and active participation from students and teachers. The concluding programme was held on September 15 with a special assembly that included speeches, quotes, awareness talks, and concluded with the Swachhta Pledge, where all students and staff promised to keep their surroundings clean and encourage others to do the same. As a part of Shramdaan, students enthusiastically cleaned the school campus. The final highlight of the event was the Signature on the Wall activity, in which students and teachers expressed their commitment to cleanliness by signing the pledge on the wall and taking selfies beside their signatures at the Selfie Booth. Principal Dr. Samina emphasized that “Clean surroundings are the first step towards a healthy and disciplined life.”
The Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged participated in the programme from September 11 to 15 with a Mass Pledge, Swachh Bharat Anthem, clean campus drive, Swachhta Rally, and plantation drive, providing hands-on experience for visually challenged students and fostering responsibility, teamwork, and independence, coordinated by Ms. Razia Bano and Mrs. Bushra Abbasi.
At Central Automobile Workshop (CAW), Swachhta Pakhwada commenced with a cleanliness pledge led by Prof. Mohammed Ali and Dr. Mohd Yunus Khan, followed by a campus cleanliness drive and a plantation drive, promoting the theme “Keep Your Surroundings Clean & Green.”
The National Service Scheme Unit organized a programme at its office near the Women’s College Gate, featuring a quiz, environmental lecture, plantation drive, signature campaign, and a cleanliness pledge led by students, with certificates awarded to participating volunteers. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Programme Officer Dr. Fauzia Faridi.
Sarojini Naidu Hall observed the campaign with a Mass Pledge, Shramdaan, and plantation drive under the guidance of Provost Prof. Orus Ilyas, highlighting collective responsibility in environmental sustainability.
Begum Azizun Nisa Hall held a cleanliness pledge and drive within the hall premises, led by Provost Prof. Asiya Chaudhary, emphasizing that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility.
The University lauded the efforts of all students, staff, and coordinators across departments, schools, and halls for their active participation and commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and sustainable campus environment.
