The number of attacks on journalists continues to rise amid the Gaza war. The Gaza Government Media Office has reported that since October 2023, 257 Palestinian journalists have been killed by the Israeli occupation. The latest case is the death of photo journalist Mahmoud Wadi, who worked with several local and international media organizations.

The Media Office strongly condemned the ‘targeted killings’ of journalists, saying that this is a systematic campaign aimed at silencing journalists and stopping the reporting of events taking place in Gaza. The statement also held the United States, Britain, Germany, and France responsible for these attacks.

According to a report by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, among the 270 journalists killed so far, 44 were killed inside displacement camps. Many attacks took place in areas where people had taken shelter near hospitals and United Nations facilities. Investigators say no military activity was found at these locations, which proves that the attacks were carried out intentionally.

The Syndicate described the attacks on journalists as war crimes and has called for an independent international commission of inquiry as well as ICC action. It has also appealed to UNESCO and other organizations to create safe zones for journalists.
