Russian Ballet Troupe Debuts “Anna Karenina” in Mumbai, Highlighting Strong Cultural Ties

The St. Petersburg State Academic Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre premiered its acclaimed production of Anna Karenina in Mumbai on December 8, marking the troupe’s first-ever performance in India.

In his welcome address, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov reflected on the celebrated history of the production, which has earned numerous prestigious awards. He underscored the event’s significance as a testament to the enduring cultural bond between Russia and India.

The world-renowned company, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, performed in India with the support of Sberbank as part of a major Asian tour. The Mumbai audience responded enthusiastically, praising the emotional depth of the choreographic psychodrama and the exceptional artistry of the dancers.

The production will run in Mumbai until December 10, after which the troupe will continue its tour in Africa with performances of the comic ballet The Pygmalion Effect.
