Aligarh, January 30: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and its Centres, schools and other units solemnly observed Martyrs’ Day, paying heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The day was marked by two-minute silences, speeches, cultural programmes, and educational activities designed to instil patriotism, unity, and a sense of national responsibility among students and staff.
At AMU Girls’ School, a special morning assembly was held under the guidance of Event In-charge Mrs. Kauser Parveen, with Principal Mrs. Amna Malik and Vice-Principal Mrs. Alka Agarwal in attendance. The programme included moving speeches and poems by students, including Parisa Faiyaz of Class XI (Arts) and Arshi Rafique of Class XII (Arts), highlighting the sacrifices and ideals of the martyrs. Sophiya Khan of Class VIII C recited a Hindi poem, touching the audience emotionally. A two-minute silence was observed to honour the nation’s heroes, and the assembly concluded with a pledge to uphold the values for which the martyrs laid down their lives.

At Abdullah School, students delivered speeches reflecting Gandhiji’s principles of truth, non-violence, and selfless service. Superintendent Ms. Umra Zaheer inspired the gathering to embrace these values in their daily lives. The entire school observed a two-minute silence in respect of Mahatma Gandhi and all martyrs of the nation.
The Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged organised a special screening of a film on freedom fighters for students, illustrating the lives, struggles, and sacrifices of national heroes. Principal Dr. Naila Rashid highlighted that observing Martyrs’ Day is a commitment to uphold the ideals of the martyrs. A lecture by Ms. Nudrat Jahan, PGT Physics, further emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices behind India’s freedom.
At the AMU Kishanganj Centre, students and faculty members observed a two-minute silence, followed by speeches and patriotic songs that paid tribute to freedom fighters and soldiers. Dr. Faiz Mohammad, Coordinator of the Department of Business Administration, reminded students to imbibe the principles of truth, non-violence, and patriotism in all aspects of life.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) units at AMU organised tribute programmes in Aligarh and at the Malappuram Centre. Volunteers and staff observed silence and pledged to follow Gandhiji’s ideals of peace, non-violence, and truth. At the Malappuram Centre, the Social Science Club conducted a quiz on Gandhi’s life and the freedom struggle, while students delivered speeches in multiple languages, including Hindi, Urdu, English, and Malayalam, reinforcing the universal message of sacrifice and patriotism.
At STS School, AMU, a two-minute silence was observed at 11 a.m., followed by an audio-visual presentation on India’s freedom movement. Principal Mr. Faisal Nafis addressed the students, stressing that Martyrs’ Day is not merely a remembrance but a call to uphold the values of truth, unity, and integrity.
The observances across all campuses left a lasting impression on students, faculty, and staff, reaffirming the importance of remembering the sacrifices of martyrs and translating their ideals into everyday life.
