Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has warned the international community that while focusing on the war involving Iran and its consequences, the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip should not be ignored.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Safadi said that discussing the war with Iran and paying attention to its circumstances is important, but it should not divert the world’s attention from the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
He also said that the process of implementing U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan related to Gaza should be accelerated in order to improve the situation there.
Safadi also urged the international community to take seriously the danger posed by the ‘illegal’ steps being taken by Israel in the West Bank. He said that Israel continues its attempts to annex the West Bank, which is weakening the prospects of a two-state solution. According to him, this solution is the only path to a just and lasting peace in the region.
Additionally, Jordan’s Foreign Minister expressed concern over the restrictions imposed on Muslims’ entry to Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan. He said that the recent restrictions placed by Israel on religious freedom in occupied Jerusalem are a clear violation of international law and of its responsibilities as an occupying power.
Safadi warned that preventing Muslims from reaching Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan could lead to serious consequences.
