Fact Check: Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Did Not Say Yogi Adityanath Will Return as Uttar Pradesh CM in 2027; Viral Post Is Fake

New Delhi: A postcard carrying the name of Jyotish Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati is being widely circulated on social media. The viral post claims that the Shankaracharya expressed support for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and predicted that he would once again become the Chief Minister in 2027. However, Times Headline’s investigation found that the claim is completely false and misleading.

What is the viral claim?

Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati is currently undertaking the ‘Gau Raksharth Dharmayuddh Yatra’ across Uttar Pradesh. Through this campaign, he has been visiting various districts, appealing for cow protection and demanding that the government declare the cow as the “Rashtra Mata” (Mother of the Nation). During the yatra, he has also criticized the Uttar Pradesh government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on several occasions.

Meanwhile, a postcard featuring a purported statement from the Shankaracharya has gone viral on social media. The viral postcard reads:

“Yogi Adityanath will once again be the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2027; nothing can stop him from becoming Chief Minister again—that is my promise.”।

Sharing the postcard, a user named Anuj Shukla wrote: “Oh Lord Hariram, Krishna, Jagannath, Premanand—what has happened? My *gamcha* has come undone!”

Similarly, LinkedIn user Gopal Pandey shared the same postcard with the caption: “Now they, too, have completed their survey; after sizing up the entire state of UP, they have realized the situation. “

Fact Check

Times Headline conducted a detailed verification of the viral claim. During the investigation, no credible evidence was found to support the claim that Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati ever made a statement predicting that Yogi Adityanath would become the Chief Minister again in 2027.

To verify the claim, relevant keywords were searched across multiple reliable news sources. However, no reputed media organization had reported any such statement by the Shankaracharya. Instead, several recent reports showed him criticizing the Uttar Pradesh government and the BJP, particularly over the issue of cow protection.

According to an ETV Bharat report, Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati had said:

“If ‘Gau-mata’ (Mother Cow) is not accorded respect, the BJP will have to face serious consequences in the upcoming elections.”

Meanwhile, a Dainik Bhaskar report stated that during his visit to Ikauna in Shravasti, he delivered a message emphasizing cow protection and the preservation of Sanatan Dharma.

Additionally, a report published by Hindustan quoted him as saying: “Sanatan society regards the cow as a mother, whereas in government records, it is still classified merely as an animal.”

He also urged the Uttar Pradesh government to clarify its policy on the issue.

Media Coordinator Also Calls It Fake

To further verify the claim, Times Headline contacted Sanjay Pandey, the media coordinator of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand. He categorically dismissed the viral postcard as fake and stated:

“This is fake news, and Maharaj-ji has not made any such statement.”

Conclusion

The Times Headline fact check clearly establishes that the claim circulating on social media is false. Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati did not make any statement claiming that Yogi Adityanath would become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh again in 2027. His media coordinator, Sanjay Pandey, has also confirmed that the viral post is fake. Therefore, the claim being circulated on social media should not be considered authentic.
