The Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a guest lecture on “Career Opportunities in Health Research” on August 17, 2026. The programme was conducted by the Department of Public Health Dentistry as part of the training and capacity-building activities under Project CORE (Community Focused Oral Health Research for Equity).
Project CORE is a multi-country collaboration involving Colombia, Kenya, Brazil and India, supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), UK. The programme aimed to introduce students to career opportunities in health research and encourage greater participation in research and academic pathways.
The programme began with a welcome address by Prof. Nadeem Yunus, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, JMI. He highlighted the growing importance of research in shaping the future of healthcare and dentistry and encouraged students to develop research skills and explore diverse academic and professional opportunities.

The guest lecture was delivered by Prof. Manu Raj Mathur, Professor of Dental Public Health at Queen Mary University of London, UK, and Head of Health Policy at the Public Health Foundation of India. With more than 15 years of experience across different health systems, Prof. Mathur discussed the changing landscape of health research, academic and professional career pathways, and the skills required to build a successful career in research.
He also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and encouraged students to consider health research as a meaningful avenue for professional development and contribution to public health.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohd. Khateeb Khan, who acknowledged the contribution of the guest speaker, organizing committee, faculty members and participants.
The event was held under the convenorship of Prof. Abhishek Mehta and coordinated by Prof. Aditi Verma, Prof. Bushra Ahmed Karim, Dr. Mohd. Khateeb Khan, Dr. Sunil Kumar Choudhary and Dr. Barsha Priya Deka from the Department of Public Health Dentistry. The session provided students with valuable insights into emerging opportunities in health research and encouraged them to explore research-oriented academic and professional careers.
