BENGALURU — Finnish cinema continued its global outreach last week as Finland partnered for the first time with the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes), drawing enthusiastic audiences and warm reception from local film enthusiasts.

The Finnish delegation expressed appreciation for the strong turnout, noting particularly the impressive midday weekday crowds that attended the screenings.
Second Secretary Iiris Määttä presented Finland’s featured film Orenda, a gripping emotional thriller set on a remote lighthouse island. The film follows two women whose shared past resurfaces, intertwining their destinies in a story that explores themes of guilt and grace.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pirjo Honkasalo, Orenda stars Pirkko Saisio and Alma Pöysti in the lead roles. Pöysti’s performance earned her the Septimius Award for Best European Actress.
Organisers and representatives expressed optimism about returning to the festival next year, further strengthening cultural ties through Finnish cinema.
