A video that has emerged from the Gaza Strip today is not just a scene, but a question posed to the conscience of the entire world. Even after buildings were reduced to rubble, schools were silenced, and universities were targeted, students in Gaza are still sitting by the seaside taking their exams.
Just imagine—while in many parts of the world even proper exam halls are considered ‘essential,’ students in Gaza are fighting for their future under the open sky, amid devastation. This is not just education; it is a silent rebellion—against the conditions that are determined to take away their rights.
The viral video on social media has deeply shaken people. One user wrote, ‘Those who destroyed the schools probably didn’t think that these children wouldn’t let their dreams collapse.’ And that is indeed the truth—buildings can be torn down, but determination cannot.
According to media reports, a total of 204 educational institutions in Gaza have been completely destroyed so far, including 190 schools and 14 universities. Another 305 institutions have been partially damaged. This has directly impacted millions of students, depriving them of their basic right to education.
And the numbers don’t stop there—more than 12,800 students have lost their lives, while 760 teachers and education-related personnel have also fallen victim to this devastation. Over 785,000 students are unable to continue their education.
This is not just a ‘crisis’; it is an attack on the future of an entire generation. The world may be silent, but the students of Gaza are not. With every wave, they are declaring: ‘We will pick up our books again, whether or not there is any ground left to stand on.
This scene compels us to ask—has the right to education also become a casualty of war? The determination of Gaza’s students deserves not just appreciation, but support and a raised voice.
