A report published by the Palestine Information Center highlights the arrests of Palestinian women and girls and raises serious concerns over the conditions they allegedly face in detention.
According to the report, 130 Palestinian women and girls from the occupied West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem have been detained since the beginning of 2026. The report says arrests of Palestinian women have increased sharply since October 7, 2023, with around 800 cases recorded since then.
According to the report, many arrests have been based on broad allegations, including social media posts that Israeli authorities classify as “incitement.” However, the exact number of women detained from the Gaza Strip remains unknown, as the report says many women continue to be forcibly disappeared.
March Recorded the Highest Number of Arrests
The report states that March saw the largest arrest campaign against Palestinian women this year, with 31 cases. Most of those arrested were reportedly wives of Palestinian prisoners, Palestinians killed by Israeli forces, former prisoners and deportees.
The report also documented the detention of three pregnant Palestinian women this year: Amina Shaher Al-Tawil, Dana Enad Joudeh and Manar Ibrahim Karaja. According to the report, Manar Ibrahim Karaja remains in detention.
91 Palestinian Women Still Detained
The Palestine Information Center report says 91 Palestinian female prisoners are currently being held in Israeli prisons, including two girls under the age of 18 and 35 mothers.
The report also highlights the cases of two women with cancer, one woman with hepatitis and an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, raising concerns over their access to necessary medical treatment.
Another case highlighted is that of Tahani Abu Samhan, who was arrested in September 2025 while seven months pregnant. According to the report, she gave birth to her child at Damon Prison in September 2025 and remains detained there with her infant.
Concerns Over Detention Conditions
The report alleges that Palestinian women are often taken from their homes during late-night raids, sometimes in front of their children, before being transferred for interrogation.
It further alleges that female detainees face harsh conditions, including alleged mistreatment, medical neglect, overcrowding, constant surveillance, searches and other forms of abuse.
According to the report, visits to female prisoners have also been suspended for more than 34 months, while detainees reportedly lack adequate clothing and other basic necessities.
Citing figures from the Palestinian Prisoners Society, the report says 3,600 arrests were documented in the West Bank through July 25 this year. Official Palestinian rights data cited in the report states that more than 9,400 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons, including 3,244 administrative detainees. These figures do not include Palestinians held in Israeli military detention camps.
