In the northern West Bank, the Israeli occupation authorities have taken a significant and controversial decision by approving the construction of 126 new settlement units at the Sanur outpost. According to a report by the Palestine Information Center, this outpost was established illegally, and this move is considered part of Israel’s settlement expansion policy.
This decision is being described as a provocative step, as it imposes new settlement realities on the ground. Reacting to the decision, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that its aim is to ‘erase the humiliation of the withdrawal from the northern West Bank.’ His statement reflects the expansionist mindset of the current far-right government.
The report states that this approval is part of a rapidly growing series of settlement projects. According to official figures and research organizations, thousands of settlement units are expected to be approved in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem by the end of 2025.
In addition, this expansion is being carried out under a planned strategy, in which security and civil approval obstacles are being removed to make the construction process easier. Its purpose is said to be to further strengthen Israeli control over Palestinian land in the West Bank.
