JMI announces award of Mohini Giri Scholarship to Famidha Farook

Under the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Dean, Prof. Ghulam Yazdani, Subject Advisor Dr. Subhradipta Sarkar, and Coordinator Dr. Alisha Khatun, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia is pleased to formally announce the award of the Mohini Giri Scholarship to Ms. Famidha Farook, a first-year law student, for the current academic session 2025. The scholarship is instituted by The Guild of Service in honor of the late Dr. V. Mohini Giri, a renowned social activist and advocate for women’s empowerment, aimed at supporting unprivileged women pursuing 5 year Law degree.

The Mohini Giri Scholarship is open exclusively to female students enrolled in the first year of the 5 year Law program at the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia.

The selection process was conducted through a rigorous multi-stage evaluation. In the first stage, based on the scrutiny of submitted applications accompanied with relevant documents, 20 female students were shortlisted. In the second stage, 15 shortlisted candidates were called to appear for a personal interview conducted by a panel comprising academicians and experts. Following a careful evaluation, 5 candidates were selected in the third stage and recommended for the Final Interview. The fourth and final stage was headed by Justice Gita Mittal (Retired Judge), Maja Daruwala, Chief Editor, Justice Report and Prof. Ghulam Yazdani, Dean, Faculty of Law, after the jury’s assessment, one student was selected for the award.

Upon completion of all stages of evaluation, Ms. Famidha Farook was unanimously selected as the recipient of the Mohini Giri Scholarship, which carries a scholarship amount of ₹1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh only) per year. The scholarship extends support for five consecutive years, ensuring continuity and stability for selected candidates.

The Faculty of Law extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Fahmida Farook on this significant achievement. The Faculty also expresses sincere gratitude to Meera Khanna, Trustee & President, the Guild of Service for her continued commitment to promoting inclusive education and empowering women through financial support and opportunities in the field of law.

This scholarship stands as a testament to the shared vision of fostering equality and academic excellence, and will be continued every consecutive academic year, benefiting two female five year law students of Jamia Millia Islamia in each succeeding year.
