Gaza/Rafah: Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has expressed serious concern over a so-called “Green City” plan by the United States and Israel for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. According to the organization, this is not a humanitarian solution but a scheme to forcibly remove Palestinians from their homes and neighborhoods and confine them in closed areas under military control.
According to Euro-Med, preparations are underway to settle Palestinians who have been displaced for the past two years in caravan-like temporary structures in Rafah, in the southern part of Gaza. The area is already fully under the control of the Israeli army, where debris removal, land leveling, and construction work are being carried out at a rapid pace.
The report states that Gaza has been divided into “red zones” and “green zones.” Between the two, a so-called “yellow line” has been established, with a policy of opening fire on anyone who approaches or crosses it. In recent weeks, this boundary has been pushed further forward, expanding the area under Israeli military control to nearly 60 percent of the Gaza Strip.
According to Euro-Med, the proposed Green City would house around 25,000 Palestinians in an area of less than one square kilometer. The site would be surrounded by fences, checkpoints, and strict surveillance, with movement permitted only after security screening. The organization described the plan as a blatant violation of international law and a direct assault on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
Euro-Med has appealed to the United Nations and the international community to immediately reject such plans and exert effective pressure to lift the blockade on Gaza.
