The holy month of Ramadan began once again amid tension and violence in the Gaza Strip. According to a report published by the Palestine Information Center, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continued carrying out air, ground, and naval attacks in various areas of Gaza, allegedly in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
According to the report, on Wednesday the death of 20-year-old Mohannad Jamal Mohammed Al-Najjar was confirmed in Khan Younis. Local sources stated that he was killed near the Bani Suheila roundabout, east of Khan Younis.
Artillery shelling targeted the eastern areas of Gaza City, while incidents of residential buildings being demolished were reported in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza. In southern Gaza, airstrikes were carried out on Khan Younis and Rafah. In addition, there were reports of artillery operations and heavy tank fire in eastern Khan Younis. Low-flying warplanes were also observed.
According to the report, alleged violations have continued since the ceasefire came into effect. Thousands of families are struggling with severe shortages of food and basic necessities. The United Nations had previously warned that famine-like conditions had spread in parts of Gaza in recent months.
Citing Palestinian sources, it was reported that since the start of the ceasefire, 634 Palestinians have been killed, including 195 children and 84 women, while 1,630 people have been injured.
The report also mentions that since October 7, 2023, more than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing Israeli operations in Gaza, around 172,000 have been injured, and over 8,000 people are reported missing. Nearly 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. According to United Nations estimates, the cost of reconstruction is projected to be approximately $70 billion.
