The Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia, inaugurated a five-day DIP Training Program from May 18–22, 2026 at the GIS Lab of the Department of Geography. The programme aims to strengthen knowledge and practical understanding in the field of Remote Sensing, GIS, and geospatial technologies among participants and researchers. The inaugural session was graced by distinguished academicians and scientists from Indian Space Research Organisation and academia. The inaugural session featured eminent experts from National Remote Sensing Centre. Dr. S.K. Srivastav, Chief General Manager, Regional Centres, NRSC/ISRO attended the event as the Chief Guest and spoke about the transformative role of space technology and remote sensing applications in national development. Special addresses were also delivered by Dr. Sameer Saran, Scientist ‘G’, Deputy General Manager, RRSC-North, NRSC/ISRO was the Special Guest, who encouraged participants to explore advanced geospatial tools and their applications in research and policy planning especially GoAI.

Prof. Atiqur Rahman Head of the department of Geography welcome the guests from NRSC/ISRO, Dean F/o Sciences, faculty members and students. He emphasized the role of such training programmes in enhancing technical competence and research capacity among students and faculty members. He thanked Dr. S.K. Srivastav, (CGM) and Dr. Sameer Saran (DGM) NRSC North for providing technical knowledge and skills to the students of Jamia since last 4 year and at no cost. Prof. Saeed Uddin, Dean, Faculty of sciences gave an account of Jamia and the courses offered by the Faculty of Sciences. He highlighted the growing importance of geospatial technologies in environmental monitoring, disaster management, urban planning, and sustainable development. He encouraged the students to do hard work and wished the training program a grand success.
The training programme includes expert lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and interactive discussions focusing on GIS, Remote Sensing, spatial analysis, and emerging geospatial applications. Participants of Master’s program from Semester 4 are attending this programme.

The faculty members and postgraduate students attended the inaugural ceremony. The programme is being coordinated by Prof. Lubna Siddiqui and Dr. Hasan Raja Naqvi along with Dr. Vinod Kumar Sharma, Scientist ‘SF’, of RRSC-North, NRSC/ISRO. The event was attended by Prof. Masood Ahsan Siddiqui, Prof. Mary Tahir, Prof. Haroon Sajjad, Dr. Mohammed Afsar Alam, Dr. Asif, Dr. Ghazal Salahuddin, Dr. Ismail Haque, Contractual and Guest Faculty of the department of Geography. Prof. Lubna Siddiqui conducted the inaugural ceremony and Dr. Hasan Raja Naqvi proposed a formal vote of thanks. The event reflects the continued commitment of Jamia Millia Islamia towards promoting scientific learning, innovation, and capacity building in geospatial sciences.
