The Israeli municipality has issued a demolition order for the home of Maher Sarhan, the son of slain Jerusalemite resident Samer Sarhan, in the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, municipal crews raided the property on Sunday and handed the demolition notice to Maher Sarhan. The house, which is around 30 years old, is home to a family of four and is among the latest Palestinian homes targeted under Israel’s ongoing home demolition policy in occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Governorate’s monthly human rights report for May states that Israeli authorities issued 20 new notices during the month. These included demolition orders, eviction notices, construction freeze orders, and land confiscation orders across the city.
The report also documented 84 demolition and land-leveling operations in May. Among them were 21 cases in which Palestinian residents were forced to demolish their own homes, while 56 demolitions were carried out by Israeli municipal authorities using heavy machinery.
In addition, seven land-leveling operations targeted Palestinian-owned land and property in several Jerusalem neighborhoods. According to the report, these actions reflect the continued implementation of demolition and land confiscation measures across occupied East Jerusalem.
