Moscow, July 1: The Russian State Library, formerly known as the Lenin State Library during the Soviet era, traces its opening to July 1, 1862. Over more than 160 years, it has grown into the largest public library in Russia and continental Europe.

The library houses millions of books, manuscripts, maps, and other rare written cultural artifacts, making it one of the country’s most significant repositories of knowledge and historical heritage.

Today, the Russian State Library continues to serve as a leading scientific, educational, and cultural institution, providing researchers, students, and the public with access to Russia’s literary legacy as well as collections from around the world.
