MEA Steps In to Assist India-Born Woman Left Stateless at Doha Airport

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has intervened to assist Nazneen, an India-born woman who was stranded at Doha’s Hamad International Airport after reportedly becoming stateless due to complex citizenship and travel documentation issues.

According to officials, the Indian Embassy in Qatar extended consular assistance to Nazneen after learning about her situation. Embassy officials coordinated with the relevant authorities and facilitated the necessary travel documentation, enabling her to proceed with her journey.

The case drew attention after reports emerged that Nazneen had been left stranded at the airport without valid nationality documents, making it impossible for her to travel. The Embassy acted swiftly to verify her background and worked closely with Qatari authorities to resolve the issue.

The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests and welfare of Indian nationals and persons eligible for Indian consular assistance abroad. Officials said Indian missions across the world continue to provide support to distressed individuals facing legal, humanitarian, or documentation-related challenges.

The successful resolution of Nazneen’s case highlights the role played by Indian diplomatic missions in extending timely assistance to individuals caught in exceptional circumstances overseas. It also underscores the importance of international coordination in addressing cases involving nationality, immigration status, and humanitarian concerns.

The Indian Embassy in Doha has remained actively engaged in assisting Indian citizens and people of Indian origin facing emergencies, ensuring that consular services remain accessible to those in need.
