NASA and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) are preparing to launch the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR), their first joint Earth observation mission, after decades of strengthening their partnership in space exploration.
NISAR will be the first radar of its kind to map the entire surface of the Earth from space in a systematic manner. It will measure surface changes as small as one centimeter twice every twelve days while operating at two radar frequencies.
By tracking minute, slow-moving changes in Earth systems that could lead to major events or have an impact on natural resource management, this mission promises to greatly improve global preparedness for natural disasters.
