Concerns are continuing to deepen over the situation of Palestinian women held in Israeli prisons. According to the latest report by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS), an organization that works for the rights of Palestinian detainees, the number of female prisoners has risen to 89 after the arrest of four Palestinian young women early Tuesday morning.
According to media reports, these 89 women include three underage girls, three pregnant women, 19 women being held in administrative detention without any formal charges or trial, and two women suffering from cancer. Most of the women are being held in Damon Prison, while some remain in interrogation and detention centers.
The PPS says that these women are facing extremely harsh conditions inside the prisons. The report claims that many female detainees are suffering from hunger, medical neglect, solitary confinement, and ongoing mistreatment. Prison overcrowding is reportedly so severe that some women are being forced to sleep on the floor.
According to the organization, repression and restrictions inside the prisons have intensified further in recent months. Reports have emerged of alleged physical assaults on female detainees, degrading strip searches, and various punitive measures. At the same time, arrests on charges of ‘incitement’ and the use of administrative detention based on secret evidence continue.
The report states that more than 760 Palestinian women have been arrested since the start of the war. According to the PPS, this figure reflects the expanding scale of the arrest campaign being carried out against women.
The greatest concern has been expressed for women suffering from serious illnesses. According to the report, the health conditions of female detainees with cancer and other chronic diseases are continuing to deteriorate. The organization alleges that the lack of adequate medical facilities, along with hunger and neglect, is increasing the risk of illness within the prisons.
The PPS has described these conditions as part of a broader pattern of mistreatment against Palestinian prisoners and has called for the immediate release of all female detainees. The organization has particularly emphasized the release of children, pregnant women, and women suffering from serious illnesses.
According to Palestinian human rights organizations, more than 9,600 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons. This includes approximately 350 children and 90 women. Human rights groups say that reports of torture, medical neglect, and other serious violations against detainees continue to emerge on a regular basis.
In this context, concerns and questions are growing increasingly urgent regarding the condition of female detainees, particularly pregnant women, underage girls, and prisoners suffering from serious illnesses.
